Strong points

Weak points

Strong points: The professor started by giving the student an opportunity to consider his own work and with a positive comment. The professor was also somewhat specific in what the essay needed to improve: clarity and impact.

Weak points: The professor told the student the essay was well-crafted but did not give examples of where the student was successful. The professor also did not ask any follow up questions as to what the student had already tried regarding organization. The suggestion of narrowing the thesis would be stronger with an example and defining what is meant by impact.

Congratulations!

You have completed the course on Competency Based Education. You now understand the competency model and how it can work in your course. By identifying crucial skills, careful planning and thoughtful assessment, you can ensure that your students develop the competencies to apply their knowledge.Download the key takeaways from this lesson or click on the document to delve deeper into the topic of competencies.

Keytakeway

Lorem ipsum dolor

CREATE: Produce new or original work (design, assemble, construct, conjecture, develop, formulate, author, investigate)

Lorem ipsum dolor

EVALUATE: Justify a stand or decision (appraise, argue, defend, judge, select, support, value, critique, weigh)

ATTENTION

2. Course objectives:Ensure that you communicate the course objectives and competencies explicitly to your students, utilizing the syllabus as a helpful tool. Adapt the learning objectives to the proficiency level of your audience, as objectives that are either too simplistic or overly complex can detrimentally impact attention.

ATTENTION

1. Story:Given that you have already identified your target audience, tailor the format to align with their needs. You can prepare stories that speak to your audience and serve as a common thread throughout your course. For instance, Executive participants may benefit more from concrete examples and tools directly applicable to their professional roles. Think of the rhythm, neither too much (risk of dropping out) nor too little (risk of daydreaming).

ANALYZE: Draw connections among ideas (differentiate, organize, relate, compare, contrast, distinguish, examine, experiment, question, test)

3. Structure:When structuring the content of your course, break it down into distinct sequences. Maintain a balance between delivering content and providing opportunities for your students to engage in various activities. This diversity should extend to the format of your content, incorporating elements such as oral delivery, videos, readings, polls, practical exercises.... This varied approach to pedagogical activities can significantly enhance overall attention.

APPLY: Use information in new situations (execute, implement, solve, use, demonstrate, interpret, operate, schedule, sketch)
