Lo primero que tienes que hacer es descomponer la frase que vas a pasar a pasiva e identificar cuáles son el sujeto, el objeto directo y el verbo (y en qué tiempo está este).
- El objeto directo de la frase en activa pasa a ser el sujeto en la pasiva.
- El sujeto de la frase en activa pasa a ser el complemento agente de la pasiva (precedido por by o «por»). En muchas ocasiones se puede omitir.
- El verbo de la pasiva se forma con el verbo to be («ser» o «estar») en el tiempo del verbo de la frase en activa más el participio del verbo de la frase en activa.
EXAMPLES
- Present simple: am/are/is + participle
They speak German here — German is spoken here
- Present continuous: am/are/is being + participle
She is eating an apple —An apple is being eaten by her
- Future (will): will be + participle
Mark will be painting the room next week — The room will be painted by Mark next week
- Future (going to): am/are/is going to be + participle
I am going to write a book next year — A book is going to be written by me next year
EXAMPLES
- Past simple: was/were + participle
Matt invited Sam to the party — Sam was invited to the party by Matt
- Past continuous: was/were being + participle
They were cooking dinner when we arrived — Dinner was being cooked when we arrived
- Present perfect: have/has been + participle
John has sent the letter — The letter has been sent by John
- Past perfect: had been + participle
They had arrested two men the day before — Two men had been arrested the day before
Rewrite Sentences in Passive Voice
- The dog chased the cat up the tree.
- The teacher graded the essays quickly.
- The company will launch a new product next month.
- My sister made me a delicious dinner.
- The storm destroyed the old building.Knock their socks off!
