B1 LEVEL

INDEPENDENT USER

What is the B1 level?

Can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

It was designed to provide a transparent, coherent and comprehensive basis for the elaboration of language syllabuses and curriculum guidelines, the design of teaching and learning materials, and the assessment of foreign language proficiency. It is complemented by the Companion Vol.

GALICIAN CURRICULUM

It is a Decree that establishes the curriculum for the A1 basic level, A2 basic level, B1 intermediate level, B2 intermediate level, C1 advanced level, and C2 advanced level of language teaching within the specialized education system in the Autonomous Region of Galicia.

SELF-ASSESSMENT GRID

This grid is a self-assessment orientation tool intended to help learners to profile their main language skills and decide at which level they might look in order to self-assess their level of proficiency.

This year, we will use the book English File A2/B1 (ISBN 978-0-19-403635-1). We won't follow the order of the units. Please note that next year we will use English File B1, so it's in your best interest to pass. In addition, we will use materials taken from several resources. It's advisable to use a folder or binder to file and store all the photocopies and date them. When possible, we will use digital resources such as songs, videos, and games.

ASSESSMENT GRID

This is an essential document. Actually, this is THE DOCUMENT. Your grade will be based on it. Read it, understand it, memorize it, internalize it, make it yours. Keep it in mind at all times.

GRADES

The passing grade is 81.25/125. You need to pass the 5 skills and get at least 12.5 per skill (compensable). Please note that the skill passing grade is 16.25. Ext.: failed parts and/or <16.25 points (<81.25).

Task 1: Email: 100-130 words. Task 2: Post, article, etc. 120-150 words. ME: Message: 60-80 words.
