Summary
Before the arrival of Europeans, Indigenous societies were diverse and highly organized with sophisticated social structures and deep spiritual connections to the land. When Europeans began arriving in Canada, their colonizations led to the displacement and disruption of Indigenous ways of life, which resulted in the erosion of Indigenous sovereignty and the imposition of foreign governance and laws. Today, Indigenous are still fighting for their cultural preservation.
