Per prima cosa devo individuare il Grande Carro, poi traccio una linea immaginaria tra le ultime due stelle, quelle più lontane del timone, che sono chiamate PUNTATRICI: DUBHE e MERAK, che in arabo significano la prima “dorso dell’orsa”, la seconda “fianchi”.

Perché il cielo è sempre diverso?Perché la sera le stelle non sono allo stesso posto della sera precedente?

Possiamo pensare il cielo come un grande ombrello, dove la polare è l’unica stella che conserva la sua dimora nel cielo mentre tutte le altre stelle e costellazioni, girano attorno al Polo una volta al giorno, in senso antiorario.

La rivoluzione delle stelle attorno alla Polare si compie in 23 ore e 56 minuti circa, mentre la durata del giorno è di 24 ore, 4 minuti in meno. Di conseguenza, le stelle sorgono sempre 4 minuti prima della sera precedente. Se impiegassero 24 ore ogni sera avremmo la stessa stella allo stesso posto!

Le Costellazioni che ruotano attorno alla Polare sono dette CIRCUMPOLARI, non scendono mai al di sotto dell’orizzonte, per cui potremo osservarle sempre. Esse sono: Grande carro, Piccolo Carro, Cassiopea, Cefeo, Drago.

COSTELLAZIONI CIRCUMPOLARI

Al tempo dei Fenici la Polare era Kochab, mentre al tempo degli Egizi la polare era Thuban, che appartiene alla costellazione del Drago. Lo dimostra la costruzione della PIRAMIDE DI GIZA, dove è sepolto il sarcofago del Faraone.

Se alziamo gli occhi al cielo e ci orientiamo verso sud scopriamo la FASCIA DELLO ZODIACO, un insieme di stelle raggruppate in costellazioni che possono essere lontanissime una della altre anche se a noi ogni costellazione appare vicina all’altra. Tutti i pianeti e la Luna sono visibili su questa fascia, per cui se osserviamo un oggetto luminoso al di fuori di questa regione dello zodiaco non può trattarsi di un pianeta.

nelle sere d’estate impossibile non notare la costellazione dello scorpione per la sua maestosità, mentre d’inverno, allo stesso posto troveremo la costellazione di Orione. Perché sono una l’opposta dell’altra? Si narra nella mitologia che Orione venne morso da uno scorpione, quindi, dimorano all’opposta nella volta celeste.

NATO SOTTO IL SEGNO DI UNA STELLA

Zeus lotta contro un mostro dal nome TIFONE ma il nemico lo colpisce. A questo punto entra in scena PAN, il Capricorno che aiuta Zeus a sconfiggere il mostro. Zeus rappresenta il Sole che, nel suo viaggio raggiunge il Solstizio Invernale dove il buio e il caos stanno per sconfiggerlo. Zeus-Sole, soccorso dal Capricorno, può risalire nel cielo e vincere a Primavera le tenebre.Oggi per effetto del moto di Precessione il Solstizio d’inverno non cade più perfettamente nel Capricorno ma nel Sagittario.

Questa costellazione rappresenta un giovane di nome GANIMEDE che dal cielo fa sgorgare nettare di eterna giovinezza.

Questa costellazione rappresenta una lotta leggendaria dove Afrodite e suo figlio Eros vennero salvati da due pesci inviati in soccorso dalle ninfe del mare, mentre stava annegando.

Questa costellazione rappresenta l’ariete alzato dal Vello d’oro che salvò due fratelli Fisso ed Elle figli di re Atamante. Mentre erano in fuga nel cielo, Elle per curiosità si sporse e cadde sulla attuale Turchia. I Greci chiamarono quella zona mare d’Elle e per la stessa etimologia i Greci chiamarono il loro paese Elleni discendenti di Elle.

La mitologia racconta che Zeus si trasformò in un toro bianco per rapire una ragazza di cui era innamorato, Europa e portarla fino alle rive di Creta, dove si sposarono e mise al mondo tre figli, tra i quali Minosse che divenne il re di Creta. Il Toro era simbolo di fertilità perché il sole arrivava in questa costellazione in primavera.

A partire dall’anno 1000 il Solstizio d’ Estate, sempre per via del moto di Precessione, ha luogo quando il sole entra nei gemelli, malgrado sia associato al cancro. I gemelli si chiamavano Polluce e Castore, il primo figlio di Zeus era quindi immortale, l’altro figlio di Tindaro re di Sparta. Castore morì durante una lotta.

Questa costellazione secondo la mitologia rappresenta un grosso granchio mostruoso inviato da Era per mettere in difficoltà Ercole durante una battaglia.

Si narra che il Leone fosse una delle prime delle 12 fatiche di Ercole ucciso grazie all’astuzia dello stesso che lo attirò in una trappola. Il leone era simbolo di abbondanza per gli Egizi poiché, si narra, che i leoni si avvicinavano al Nilo proprio nel periodo in cui avveniva lo straripamento. Infatti, possiamo notare come parecchie fontane sono rappresentate da questo simbolo: abbondanza d’acqua. Al tempo degli Egizi il solstizio estivo arrivava nel segno del Leone.

Nella tradizione contadina, questa costellazione era molto importante perché la sua apparizione indicava il periodo della formazione dei germogli di grano, la sua apparizione a mezzo cielo indicava la mietitura e quando la sua stella VINDEMIATRIX era vicina all’orizzonte era tempo di vendemmia. Oggi nella vergine avviene l’Equinozio d’autunno.

Questa costellazione venne chiamata Libra poiché all’epoca della Grecia, il Sole si trovava in quella costellazione all’Equinozio d’ Autunno. La bilancia indica equità, il momento in cui giorno e notte hanno la stessa durata.

La storia mitologica di questa costellazione è legata alla costellazione di Orione. Si narra che Orione si era innamorato di Artemide la quale mandò uno scorpione per avvelenare il cacciatore.

Secondo la mitologia questa costellazione simboleggia Croto che applaudiva le muse che lo incantavano con il canto, inventando gli applausi. Zeus gli diede il corpo di cavallo proprio per sottolineare la sua bravura equestre

Successivamente divento GENNAIO il primo mese dell’anno. Il nome GENNAIO deriva da GIANUS il dio bifronte che da una parte guardava l’anno nuovo e dall’altra guardava l’anno vecchio. Sarà GIULIO CESARE a sistemare le cose e a far si che il calendario divenne il più famoso. Aveva solo fatto male i conti riguardo l’ultimo mese inserito di 28 giorni che ogni quattro anni bisognerà aggiungere 1 giorno per far quadrare i conti.
