Currently, deforestation in the Edo of Mexico has reached serious levels due to the abuse and corruption of authorities, companies and the lack of knowledge in very vulnerable areas of the country.

The current problem

The researcher from the Faculty of Geography of the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEM), Xanat Antonio Némiga explained that in 2022, nearly 300 points of serious deforestation will be located throughout the Mexican territory.

"Global Forest Watch indicates that there are municipalities that have lost up to 92 hectares of forest in the State of Mexico in the last year," he said.

  • In 2022, 1,310 hectares of forest were lost allegedly due to clandestine logging

- Transportation crime.-Storage, Illegal Distribution, Processing, Marketing or destruction of forest products. (For example, the illegal sale of Christmas pine trees, not all these areas practice constant reforestation.-Companys corruption"The authority would need a lot of resources to be able to monitor all the forests, since we have significant portions of deforestation, dispersed throughout the territory, there is no budget that is enough," lamented researcher Antonio Némiga

Main reasons for the problem:

The most important thing is to generate awareness and responsibility in the youngest sector of society. How to do it?-Create more efficient reforestation programs for primary schools to universities so that this is part of a habit and belief of caring for and maintaining the environment.

Solutions

More options -Promote contests to the general public in each delegation, about initiatives and new projects of biodegradable materials, processes that allow less use of wood.

«A nation that destroys its soil destroys itself. “Forests are the lungs of the earth, they purify the air and give pure strength to our people.” Franklin D. Roosevelt.
