LESSONS
To increase persistence, discussion, and participation, the students (in groups of three) solve problems on whiteboards.Working in class over two or three days, the students solve 30 or more problems. The students will grow as thinkers if they are engaged, focused, and willing to participate.
To prepare for notes, I ask students about the steps they followed, strategies they used, and the patterns they discovered. The students complete notes for their future, forgetful selves. If students are focused at the whiteboards, the notes will come easily.
Independently, the students complete 2-5 Check Your Understanding problems before taking the exit ticket. The students choose from Mild, Medium, and Spicy problems.I do not use Spicy problems on the exit tickets. They simply challenge those students who are daring.
EXIT TICKETS
Exit Tickets are mini-quizzes. They assess learning and provide feedback for teachers.
If an exit ticket is failed, the students are expected to complete a task as practice.I use a variety of applications (Genially, Quizizz, Flippity, H5P, and Image Reveal) to make the tasks a bit more interesting.
Each task includes my video, my notes, and 10 problems. Each task has different problems, so the students could complete more than one task for extra practice.
