LET'S SAVE THE ISLANDS!
Climate change is a fact. It is affecting all parts of the world in one way or another. But of all of them, the island and coastal territories are what will see their effects most quickly.These changes can already be seen in natural spaces and in economic activities. Of these, tourism, the main basis of our economy, will be greatly altered.
LET'S SAVE THE ISLANDS!
Faced with this situation, we must continue trying to mitigate its effects and, above all, begin to act to adapt to it. This project aims to find out what the situation is on the different islands and what actions are carried out to achieve this. It is also interesting to see the perception of the population in relation to these changes that have already begun to occur and how we can act from our closest environment. We will talk with our grandparents, with the administration, companies and NGOs to learn more about what is happening and how we can adapt in the best possible way, protecting our terrestrial and marine environment.All this to be able to reach the final goal and declare the International Day of the Islands, so that they are aware and protected worldwide.

THE ISLANDS
The objective is to be able to get to know different islands which have a historical journey in a tourist economy and others where it is booming at the moment.We intend to know what happens in the Mediterranean, where we are, but also in the North Atlantic and in the Indic Ocean, where the climatic characteristics are very different from ours.

CLIMATE CHANGEWe know how the environment has changed by interviewing our senior citizens. We meet with the city council, companies and NGOs to see what is being done to adapt to climate change on the islands.

Finally we will write a letter to our co-workers on the other islands.

We are going to record a video to make our school known to others. We are going to edit it and upload it to the project's collaborative padlet.

In groups, we will investigate one of the aspects of our islands. We will look for images and capture it in a presentation or video. Then, we will upload it to the padlet

We will learn how our territory, our customs and our daily lives have changed with climate change and what is currently being done to adapt to it by the administration, companies and NGOs. We will prepare and conduct interviews that will help us create our results podcasts.

Once the results have been analyzed, we must make short videos to raise awareness among the population and visitors so that they protect our territory and understand that these are islands with special physical and human characteristics.

After knowing the peculiarities that each island has and the things we have in common, analyzing what is being done to mitigate and adapt to climate change in each area, we must take action. We will write a manifesto so that all the islands on the planet are truly valued and protected and the Declaration of International Island Day is produced.

CLOSING THE PROJECT
BE OR NOT TO BE ANISLAND GUARDIAN?
The importance of analyzing all the planned items is to then be able to act consciously in the future.For this reason, it is very important to give it visibility and contact the different affected entities so that they can take the appropriate measures.And even more important, it is to internalize what habits we must change in our lives to be able to continue living on our islands in the best possible way.
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE ISLANDS?
The United Nations and different international entities celebrate international days on many topics. But none of them refer special importance to the islands.Yes, we can find the day of the forests, the day of the mountains, the day of the environment, but there is still no day for the islands.For this reason we can reclaim the celebration of the International Day of the Islands, for different reasons: to give visibility, to give them a greater mention of protection and conservation and to raise awareness in society of the importance they have at an environmental, economic and social level.
