He is new to treatment court.Ben admits to using fentanyl up to two grams daily prior to incarceration, and enjoys the euphoria associated with use. He uses methamphetamine to treat opioid withdrawal symptoms.

  • While in jail, Ben was offered only "comfort measures" as withdrawal management;
  • No MOUD was provided while he was incarcerated.
  • Jail staff believed that buprenorphine is their biggest problem (ahead of fentanyl, heroin, and other illicit substances).
  • Ben had cravings for fentanyl upon release from custody, with return to use within 48 hours.
  • Ben experienced near-fatal overdose with rhabdomyolysis.
  • Upon hospital discharge, no Rx for buprenorphine was given and no referral to OTP was given.
