Mistrust
Self-Driver or Ubers?
Lesson 1
According to a 2024 survey conducted by AAA, a significant 66% of U.S. drivers express fear or uncertainty regarding self-driving cars. One major factor is the lack of control consumers face when riding in these cars. The idea that they cannot override the car's actions in unusual situations questions how we feel riding in it. Consumers feel hesitant to fully trust this even though it has proven benefits.
Why do people mistrust self-driving cars?
Self Driving cars or Uber?
Why are people uneasy about getting in a self-driving car...but completly ok with getting into an Uber or another ride share? When we get into those vehicles, we are putting our trust in the hands of a stranger. Didn't we learn as a kid to never get in the car with a stranger? Not to mention, we could be in a potentially dangerous situation from robbery to kidnapping when we allow ourselves into these vehicles. Getting into a vehicle without a human, eliminates that danger.
Connection to Lesson 1
In the TED talk video from Lesson 1, we learn that the first GPS wasn't going to be patterned. There were too many errors and miscommunication with it. IT was not going to be widely accepted. Thinking about how far we have come and rely on GPS on our phones now. We are all skeptical at first, but they we get to a point where we think how can we live without it?
