Curious Facts about Alice in Wonderland

  • The novel was written by Lewis Carroll. This was a pseudo name; his real name was Charles Lutwidge Dodgson.
  • Carroll had many jobs including novelist, mathematician, photographer, and artist.
  • The novel was first published on November 26, 1865.
  • There are 12 chapters in the novel.
  • Alice's character was based on a real-life little girl named Alice Liddell, but she was not a blonde girl as illustrated in the book. She was brunette!
  • The title for the original novel was "Alice's Adventures Under Ground".
  • Queen Victoria SEM huge fan of the novel.
  • The novels were banned China 1931, on the grounds that animals should not use human language.
  • There have been many adaptations of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland including 2 Disney films.
  • Alice-in-Wonderland syndrome exists. It is also known as Todd's syndrome and it's a rare neurological disorder that causes strange hallucinations and affects the size of visual objects.
  • Many Characters of the book personify mental conditions. The conditions include eating disorders (reflected in Alice's constant eating, drinking and regretting), borderline personality disorder (the Mad Hatter's rapid changes in mood) and anxiety disorder (the White Rabbit obsessing over punctuality and terrified of being late).
  • The book has been translated into 176 languages.
  • The White Rabbit's pocket watch always set at 12.25
