1990

En los años 1980, el MRP II amplió el alcance del MRP original para incluir otros recursos de fabricación, como la gestión de mano de obra, los costos y los recursos de la planta. Su principal característica era la capacidad de integrar información financiera con la planificación de producción, facilitando así la toma de decisiones en toda la organización. Además, incluía módulos de planificación de capacidad, programación detallada, y control de planta, extendiendo el uso del sistema más allá del inventario (Jacobs & Chase, 2020).

1980

En la década de 1970, el MRP evolucionó hacia el "Closed-Loop MRP", integrando la retroalimentación del sistema de producción para mejorar la planificación. Esta versión del MRP no solo gestionaba los materiales, sino que también permitía ajustar los planes de producción en función de la información actualizada de los inventarios, la capacidad de la planta y las órdenes de trabajo, cerrando el ciclo entre la planificación y la ejecución (Jacobs & Chase, 2020).

1970

El MRP se desarrolló inicialmente en la década de 1960 para ayudar a las empresas a gestionar y planificar los materiales necesarios para la producción. Su principal característica era calcular las cantidades necesarias de materiales y programar la producción con base en la demanda del cliente y los niveles de inventario. Este sistema se centraba principalmente en la gestión de inventarios y en la programación de la producción (Jacobs & Chase, 2020).
