Flex Band Arrangments
Composers and publishers have worked to support performing groups with limited instrumentation. Typically written for 4 or 5 parts, the parts enable instruments to cover different layers of a piece. This allows conductors to diversify parts to players to help balance out the group's sound even with small numbers or missing instruments. It also enables directors to assign parts based on ability level. Flex Band arrangements are now available from all major music publishers. New Flex Band pieces are coming out regularly along with standard repertoire pieces being modified for Flex Band.

Small Group Ensembles
Chamber music promotes independent learning, fosters collaboration between peers, vitalises deep listening and score analysing, engages students and increases music participation in addition to all the musical benefits such as rhythm, intonation, and musicianship. (Chamber Music for All: Highlighting the Voices of Beginner Musicians, 2022) When assembling the ensembles, teachers can group students by ability, instrument, or the style of music to be played depending on the need or purpose for differentiation.

MusicTheory.net
This interactive web resource, houses self-paced lessons containing visual, auditory, and descriptive text to introduce, remediate, or extend concepts of basic music theory. Paired with these lessons are exercises for students to recall, and recreate their knowledge and skills. Teachers can make use of teacher-created exercises. These can be modified in many ways to accommodate any need for practice, or assessment. Assessments are assigned a code that a teacher can input and recall all the student data from that assessment or exercise.

District Honor Band
Students who are advanced within their program could be selected for their district's honor band. This could be an audition process where the best of each instrument across the district are awarded a chair or an ensemble built to represent every school evenly. While the former can produce exceptional ensembles the latter allows top students in each school to be recognized and allowed to play with those with the same passion and skill.

Colorado Symphony Field Trip
The Colorado Symphony educational department curates these educational performances. They include background, and theory analysis of symphonic literature and have recently been expanded to include spoken word, dance, vocal selections, and unique combinations of each of these previous disciplines.

Ningenius is a budget-friendly online gamified music theory curriculum. Students are presented with scaffolded music theory and assessed after each chunk. Graphics and sounds are engaging for students as they try to beat each level. I assign grades based on the color they are able to receive for each level before testing for their "belts". All black stars receive a "4" because the student demonstrated a deep knowledge of the content and completed quickly.

Solo and Ensemble
Solo and ensemble festivals require students to be responsible for their own parts, which rarely occurs in large concert ensembles. They cannot hide in a trio, when they are the only one assigned to that particular part. Ensembles teach “teamwork” in that each member has a responsibility to the other ensemble members. Solos and ensembles teach personal responsibility. (Plunkett, 2015)

Virtual Bands
Virtual Bands were born from the creative minds that were trapped in their own homes during the COVID-19 pandemic. Players yearned to continue to make connections through music. Timelines were set, music was shared and students worked hard on their own to prepare music. Using consumer-level technology they shared videos of their performances, which were then edited into one video performance. These groups kept the avenues of communication and collaboration open and vibrant during some solitary times.
Make Music Cloud
In the spirit of deliberate practice, students receive immediate feedback on their individual performances through algorithmic assessment of note pitch, rhythm, and duration, while simultaneously receiving contextual reference by recording against the accompaniment. (Helping Teachers Teach and Students Practice-from the Cloud to the Classroom, 2023)I've used this in previous years of teaching. This fee-based program is one of the most powerful tools available on the market when selecting music that aligns with the school's library. When using Make Music Cloud the classroom gets flipped and students use the programs feedback to make adjuments to their own practice and learning.

Selecting Music from Diverse Cultures
School music libraries need to be continually expanded. Orchestration within each piece can limit its use with each class. Purchasing music from vendors like JWPepper, Grand Mesa Music, Alfred Music, and Barnhouse is a daunting but necessary task every year. Most of the music added to my music library of late has been to expand the available songs of composers of diverse cultures, and those written with significant research into the cultures that the music is written for. Many pieces that sound diverse are based off "old white guys" interpretations of what they thought that culture would songs like. Many are written with no actual knowledge of the people.

African Drum Circles
Modeling learning that is represented by generational knowledge can have deep impacts on students. By using videos, teacher-directed call-and-response we can show how the most basic element of music (rhythm) was important to early civilizations.
