Paquime
The so-called Pueblo culture of the southwestern United States of America – based on agriculture – slowly spread southwards in the first millennium AD. Thus, in the 8th century, the population from New Mexico founded a village of underground houses at the site of Casas Grandes. Paquimé became a great commercial centre that linked the southwestern United States with northern Mexico. It had a population of ten thousand inhabitants, making it one of the largest in North America.
