The famous actress Michelle Rodríguez was criticized for posing for a magazine; she explained that she did not expect to receive negative feedback after the cover was revealed: “I was very excited because I thought it would be well received by the public... the digital magazine came out along with the covers on social media, and then on Twitter, a lot of controversy started. There were people talking about why a fat woman was on the cover of a fashion magazine.”

Example

Beauty stereotypes of celebrities are the norms or models of physical appearance that are promoted and represented by famous individuals, such as actors, models, and other public figures. These stereotypes can influence self-esteem, body perception, and health habits, often promoting an unrealistic or unattainable image that can lead to issues like body dissatisfaction, eating disorders, and a distorted perception of what an "ideal" body is.

References

Stereotypes often generate prejudices because they lead to prejudging, that is, making a judgment without having sufficient information to support it. Prejudices are often based on rumors or on an assumed prior experience of the people within our group.

¿Where do stereotypes come from?

1. They promote unattainable standards 2. Impact on mental health 3. They reinforce discrimination and prejudice 4. Influence on consumer decisions 5. Social pressure

Consequences of stereotypes

Thanks to the media, the education and socialization in which we have been immersed since we were little, generate various physical and mental conflicts; according to Garay (2013) some examples can be "addicted to cosmetic surgeries and products harmful to health, eating problems, depressive disorders, anxiety, etc.We can emphasize that one of the most serious problems in terms of beauty stereotypes are eating disorders, since it is generally the sociocultural factors that determine the development of it. It is evident that there is a serious problem in terms of self-image, self-esteem and self-concept in us; and apparent in these studies, this increases over the years.

In society...

Beauty stereotypes promoted by celebrities negatively impact society by imposing unrealistic appearance standards, affecting self-esteem and body image. It is important to promote diversity and acceptance of all forms of beauty to counteract these effects.
