How to answer the questions Out of the whole First Certificate examination, this is probably the exercise that focuses most on grammar. The answer to the gaps is never a complicated word. Instead, you will be focusing on the small words which help make sentences. Most of the words in the gaps will be made up of the following words: prepositions, articles, auxiliary verbs, modal verbs, relatives, question words, conjunctions, quantifiers, adverbs, demonstratives, impersonal subjects.
