Lenght: It started approximately 4 billion years ago, when the Earth’s crust started to solidify because of the rain’s action on the hot rocks, and ended 570 million years ago.
Precambrian
Event: Those oceans where the habitat of the first unicellular organisms and of the first oxygen-producing organisms, which started to modify the dense atmosphere composed mainly of methane, hydrogen and carbon dioxide, as well as toxic gases released by volcanoes.
Paleozoic
Lenght:(541 million years ago to 252 million years ago)Events: During this era, life existed predominantly in the sea: invertebrates, jellyfishes, worms, mollusks, snails, and corals dominated the oceans. The first vertebrates appeared.

Cenozoic
Lenght: (66 million years ago to present)Event: Because of the continuous fracture of Pangea, caused by the continental drift, Antarctica was definitively separated from Australia. Moreover, the expansion of the North Atlantic Ocean moves Greenland away from North America.
Mesozoic
Lenght: (252 million years ago to 66 million years ago)Events: At this era, North America and Eurasia were created. Gondwana remained together until the end of this era, when Australia was separated and formed an individual continent, still together with Antarctica. Dinosaurs reigned during this era, although birds and primitive mammals also appeared.
Quaternary Period
Lenght:Quaternary Period (2.6 million years ago to present)Events:The subsequent thaw caused the sea level to rise between 30 or 40 meters. The effect of such phenomenon was the flooding of big land surfaces, creating shallow seas and the widening of the continental shelf, especially in North America. The Homo sapiens has been dominating the Quaternary.
