Hirohiko Araki was born in Sendai Japan on June 7, 1960. He grew up with his sisters and as a child he liked to read manga and art books. At the age of 10 he wrote his first manga and thanks to praise from his friends he decided to continue drawing.

Araki began sending his manga proposals to major publishers in Japan in the hope of convincing them to publish his work, however, he was always rejected. Until one day he decided to go personally to the publisher to find out what he was doing wrong. After his work was harshly criticized, the publisher told him that although it was true that his sleeves were far from being perfect, they noticed a certain spirit in his works so they encouraged him to correct his mistakes and enter a contest for the opportunity to have his manga published.
