What are the ingredients for a good dystopian story ?

"Many of these stories derive directly from our society. It's not only a fantasy. Now, many of these dystopic stories, I want to call them 'post-apocalyptic'; that means they are after the apocalypse, after something big and bad has destroyed the society as we know it, and people are stumbling along, struggling to survive. Maybe it has already happened, or it hasn't happened yet; in which case we are here, and it is a potential if we take certain steps; otherwise, we will end up here." Professor David Beagley

The Hunger Games draws inspiration from various sources. These include Greek mythology, particularly the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur. In the story, Athens is punished by Minos and must send seven youths to be sacrificed to the Minotaur, a creature which they must fight to the death. The Roman Gladiator Games, known for their brutal entertainment, also inspired the nature of the Hunger Games, where people are forced to fight to the death by a ruthless government. Additionally, the unsettling juxtaposition of people's fascination with reality TV shows and the harsh realities of the Iraq War served as another layer of inspiration for the series. It helped her to invent the nature of the "Hunger Games".
