A description of an object or place
When you write a description of a place (or object), you generally use simple present tense unless you are describing something happening now or something you have seen in the past.
The following mind map shows ideas one student has brainstormed about the view from a room.
WRITING TASKUse a mind map like the one below to write about the view from your home or school. Refer to the list of prepositions and use adjectives. Try to help your readers imagine the view.

The mechanics of writing
You probably remember that a simple sentence has a subject and a verb. But if you write only using simple sentences, your writing will seem childish. You should write using a mixture of simple, compound and complex sentences.
Kinds of Sentences
Writing a process or explaining how to do something
Think about something you want to tell others how to do (for example, how to cook something, make a kite, build a plane etc.) Make a plan and then write your first draft.PLAN
- What will you tell others to do?
- List the materials which will be needed.
- Write the steps which should be followed in order.
- Check you know how to form passive voice in simple present tense.
