This is the LAST English class of your high school career. I DO expect you to write and respond using proper grammar and mechanics. Please respond to lesson questions academically and not like you're texting your buddy or posting on Insta. Practice writing like a professional.
Conventions in English
Like most things in life, you get out what you put in. If you can't make it to our scheduled class, I totally get it, but I DO expect you to watch the class recordings - especially if you're having trouble understanding.I'm happy to answer your questions, but I also expect you to take advantage of what I already taught or covered in class.
Class Recordings
As this year progresses, I will be adjusting our lessons based on what I seen as needs, strengths, weaknesses, etc...For this reason, your goal should be to WORK WITH THE CLASS.You should do your best to not work ahead, and you should certainly not get behind.
The Goal
Open-Ended Questions
With regard to the open-ended, written response type of questions:I expect you to provide responses that prove to me that you know what you're talking about with regard to the literature being studied. I do not expect answers that could just as easily be referring to Pete the Cat as they could to Macbeth.
You must make an honest effort on all questions (unless they are clearly marked optional). Responses such as "IDK," "not sure," dots, and/or random letters will earn you zero points. The same goes for uploading random documents.Guided lessons are for you to practice. If you just write "IDK," you're not practicing. Watch the recording. If you still have questions, please ask. That's why you have a recording, and that's why I'm here.
"IDK?"that's why I'm here.
If you have a lesson reset in my class, I will provide information about why it was reset. You will find that information in your "alerts." You get to the "alerts" by clicking on the icon that looks like a lightning bolt in the top right corner of your Edio screen.

Disclaimer: There is a cuss word at the beginning of this video.
what is plagiarism?
I have a zero-tolerance policy for plagiarism which includes having AI write your work for you. If I find that work has been plagiarized or written by AI, the whole assignment gets a zero, and I won't reset it. If you are unclear about what plagiarism is, please watch the video linked below. Please note, this is an older video from before the time of AI and ChatGPT. Having AI write your work isn't going to work here either. Same policy applies.
Plagiarism & AI Constructed Responses
The Class Resources Padlet
We use a bunch of tech tools in English 12. our Class Resource Padlet is the master list of all our tech tools and where you'll find them as well as a bunch of different resources that you will be able to use throughout the year. I will be adding to it throughout the year, especially within the first few months, so check it frequently.I expect you to have it bookmarked on your laptop for easy and quick access. It is linked below. Please be sure to bookmark it now.
How to Take a Snip
We utilize the "snip" function frequently in this class.
- To take "snip" on your computer, press the "S" key, the windows key, and the shift key at the same time. This should provide you with a cursor and your screen should get darker.
- Drag the cursor over the area you want to capture in the "snip."
- When you let go of the cursor, the "snip" will be on your clipboard.
- You can paste it by placing your cursor where you want the snip and then pressing the control and "V" keys at the same time to paste.

Meetings
All of my English 12 students are expected to communicate with me at least once per quarter. If you'd like to chat me, that's perfectly fine. You can use webmail or call me if you'd like. I prefer Zoom meetings so that we can screen share and work on any problems you may be having. In any case, make our lives easy by setting up meetings with me each quarter and by responding when I reach out. The bookings link is to the right and is also on the Symbaloo and on our course's announcements page.
Please, let me know if you need help!
I hope these "nuts and bolts" allow us to have a smooth and enjoyable English 12 class this year!Remember, as the year continues, you can and should reach out to me for help any time you need it. That's why I'm here! All of my contact information is on our class's announcements page.
