The aim of these activities is to revise prepositions of placement and to practice using them in real life situations. The activities aim to encourage ss to talk more freely about things they already know or are familiar with using the prepositions of placement. Each slide offers multiple solutions so that ss can use their imagination and participate in the creative process. They are prepared for the ss to create unexpected situations that can be remembered better.
Version 1 - all ss have computers or mobile devices
1 Domino mismatch - speaking
This activity can serve as a quick fun review of all the prepositions of placement. It is designed to elicit both affirmative and negative sentences with the use of the prespositions. Ss see the flashcard and a mismatched preposition, target language - The bird isn't on the sofa. The bird is in the cage.
Put ss in pairs. Ask 1 ss to pick the place - a bedroom, a farm, a forest. Ask this ss to arrange their place. Then ask the same ss to 'dictate' the picture to their friend describing where every object or character is. When they have finished, change the roles.
Version 2 - individual student lesson
2 Do you see where they are? - speaking
This activity gives multiple options for descriptions of the image or pair work where ss need to describe the placement of the objects to their friends.
The activity can be organized in the same way, but this time T is the participant as well. Follow the method from version 1.
Version 3 - whole class activity - interactive board
3 Find them - listening
This activity helps ss understand spoken language and checks their understanding of the instructions. Ss listen to the description and place the objects in the correct places.
T prepares a set of sentences for each slide placing different objects. In class, T asks individual ss to come to the board and move the object according to the instruction. When each ss participated the ss can now orally describe the arrangement one by one or write a description of the picture.
