Along with this, anorexia causes many to distance themselves which can only cause harmful thoughts to get worse. This impacts tons of students and their life were they use school as an excuse to stay out of social events along with eating at home.

What Are The Risk Factors of Anorexia?

Dieting/Starvation: There is strong evidence supporting the idea that starvation and dieting is directly linked to anorexia. Starvation may change the way the brain thinks and attacks vulnerable people, making it hard for them to return to normal eating.

Transitions: The emotion stress of events like school, the death of a loved one, or even moving into a new home can increase the risk of getting anorexia.

Treating Anorexia

Genetics: Genetic changes that may make some people have a higher risk of having anorexia, these people may have more perfectionism and sensitivity traits which is linked to having anorexia.

There is no real way to prevent anorexia but there are ways to catch it earlier on and get those around you the help they need. When bringing up the subject with the person be aware of how you say things as some people with anorexia may have less emotional stability and may close themselves off even more.

Some early signs would be someone constantly talking about their weight in a negative way, low self esteem, or severe dieting habits.

Who Is Susceptible To This Health Issue?

Anorexia is more common among young girls and women but can affect anyone. The age range that has the most risk is those thirteen to early twenties but again can happen to anyone at any age. Asian Americans also have higher rates of having body dissatisfaction and more negative views towards larger body weights and obesity than any other race, resulting in developing anorexia or bulimia.

In Japan, psychosomatic physicians, as well as psychiatrists, play a leading role in the treatment and research of eating disorders, exemplified by conducting clinical trials of cognitive behavior therapy

How To Get Treatment in Japan

Options For Treatment

There are several therapeutic approaches available for patients with anorexia with things such as individual psychotherapy, physical and nutritional management, cognitive behavioral therapy, family therapy, psychoeducation, medication and reparenting therapy which was originally created in Japan.

Obstacles for Treatments in Japan

In japan compared to the number of patients with anorexia there is an insufficient amount of doctors and specialists to treat them. Along with the insufficient amount of specialist the cost is also incredibly high since Japanese insurance does not cover anorexia treatment.

Along with the high cost, anorexia treatment does not fit nicely into routine with outpatient clinics. However, they have tried to provide standardize treatments for patients with anorexia.

How Anorexia Impacts Japan and Its People

Anorexia's effect on Japan has correlated with the industrialization, urbanization, and fray of traditional family forms after WW2. As Japan does show to link anorexia and other eating disorders to the social transformations, it also has to be in consideration of historical and cultural factors that shaped the experiences.
