Content literacy strategies are important when students are trying to understand topics that may be hard to grasp. It allows them to enhance their criticial thinking skills as well as better understand some of the concepts in science.
Strategy: Post Promise or Story Worthy
Short Summary: Students are given information and have to decide which part of the information is post worthy or important and which information is supporting or extra information and would go in their story. Then, students create an instragram post on paper with the information. (Harper, 2023) Specific Content Area Use: I could give the student any Earth Science topic. Maybe I want to have them research the different types of volcanoes and they have to choose the important vs unimportant material to create their post. Digital Modification: A digital modification would be to have the students create their post on something like Genially or Snappa.

Strategy: Paint Strip Arguments
Short Summary: Paint strips is a way for students to use visual aids to enhance their ability to discuss and defend various viewpoints. They use paintstrips to collect notes, using different colors for differents texts and perspectives. They are able to see the varying degrees of perspectives of all students in the class. (using different shades of the same color). Paint strips are like a visual likert scale. (Harper, 2023) Specific Content Area Use: Students could use the paint strip for any issues or controversial topics in science. Students could look at global warming, the Big Bang Theory, or geological events, etc... From there, have students read texts over those issues and give their perspectives on them, making sure to use the correct paint strip. Digital Modification: When it is time for students to respond to articles and arguments, they can do so on padlet instead of the paint strips. Not only that Google slides can be used to set up digital paint strips. (Harper, 2023)
Strategy: Wordless picture books
Short Summary :Wordless picture books rely solely on pictures to convey narratives. That allows for students to use their imagination and give their intepretation of what the picture is. Students learn to analyze and interpet the images while building text around the image. Specific Content Area Use: In Earth Science, they can be used to show natural processes and environments, allowing students to infer meaning without text. Which will help build the skill of understanding scientific diagrams. Digital Modification: Instead of having a tangible pictures or picture books, I could, "load the pages into a Google Slide" (Harper, 2023) and have the sutdents analze the pictures and build their text within the slide"

Strategy: Resource Round-Up
Short Summary: After choosing a theme, the teacher creates 3-4 questions about the topic/theme. Divides the class into groups and each group has one of the questions, they then circulate around the classroom to the different resources stations collecting informaiton that will answer their one question. Eventually the students share out. It is very simlar to the jigsaw strategy. The difference is they help each other determine which resources are more helpful Specific Content Area Use: I might use them when I want to give my students serveral different resources on my topics. For instance I might have them looking at weathering and erosion in different climates across the world. Exposing my students to different texts about weathering and erosion in a short time (Harper, 2023) Digital Modification: Instead of printing the articless, I could set it up like I do my webquests and assign the links in the Canvas class.

Strategy: Exit-Slip Variations
Short Summary: Different ways to have students reflect or summarize their learning or share their misconceptions over topics as part of the closing of an activity. One variation is the Earth, Wind, Fire (what is something solid under your feet, what is something still blowing around in your head, what is one part of the lesson you are on fire for (excited) Specific Content Area Use: The variation known as ACDC(ask, connect, draw, cues), I thought it might be good when talking about the water cycle. The concept I would like them to think about would be other cycles we find in science. I would have them draw a part of the water cycle and ask them what helps them to remember the parts of it. Digital Modification: Use Jamboard or padlet for possible digital modifications (Harper, 2023). I would have my students post their ACDC on padlet or even in the collboration part on Nearpod, so they can actually draw their picture.
