WRITING A DESCRIPTION

Use Simple Vocabulary: Stick to common words that students are familiar with, such as "big," "small," "blue," "happy," etc.Short Sentences: Write in short, clear sentences. For example, "The car is red" instead of "The car has a red color." Focus on Basic Details: Include basic information like size, color, and quantity. For example, "There is one dog. It is brown." Use Familiar Topics: Choose topics that are relevant to their daily life, like describing a friend, family member, or their favorite food. Repeat Key Words: Reinforce learning by repeating important words. For example, "The apple is red. The apple is big." Visual Aids: If possible, use pictures to help students connect words with images, making it easier to understand and remember the description.

Last week, I had an interview at a car shop for an entry-level mechanic job. I was a bit nervous, but I was also excited because I really want to work as a mechanic. When I arrived, the manager welcomed me and asked me to sit down. He told me that the interview would help him understand my experience and skills. The manager asked me to tell him about my background. I explained that I’ve always loved fixing cars. Since I was young, I’ve helped my uncle and family members repair cars in our home garage. I’ve worked on all kinds of vehicles, from small cars to big trucks. Then, the manager asked if I could do basic tasks, like oil changes, tire rotations, and brake repairs. I told him I could do all of that easily. He smiled and nodded, which made me feel more confident. Next, he asked if I had my own tools. I explained that I don’t have a complete tool set yet, but my brother works at a pawn shop and will help me get a high-quality set of tools as soon as I get the job. I told the manager I’m ready to start working hard from day one. At the end of the interview, the manager said they had more candidates to interview but would call me within a week. I thanked him for the opportunity and left the shop feeling hopeful. I really want this job because I know I can be a great mechanic and help the team. Now, I’m waiting for the phone call and hoping for good news!

Listen to a conversation where you can hear about a car mechanical problem and answer the questions.

LISTENING

Read the statements below and decide whether they are true or false based on the transcript: The car owner thinks the problem is with the battery. The car owner offers to buy a new car after the car breaks down again. The person in the conversation suggests borrowing money from Dad to buy a new car. The engine is overheating because the oil was changed just 3 months ago. The mechanic says it will cost around $1,500 to fix the car. The car owner accepts the mechanic’s suggestion of getting a new car immediately. The total cost to fix the car is $4,800. The mechanic suggests that the car owner could get a convertible with a fast engine.

Fill in the gaps with the correct words from the transcript: "I’ll call a tow truck. Wait, I know a lot about _____. I’ll fix it." "Both the headlights and the radio work, so it’s not the _____." "I think I got it. See, I’m a _____. Yes, okay, let’s go!" "I definitely have to buy a new _____ soon." "Why don’t you give this _____ to me and you can get a new one?" "I don’t want Dad or anybody else to lend me _____." "There’s smoke coming out from under the _____." "Your engine is overheated. When did you last change the _____?" "I can fix it, but it’ll be a little bit _____. How much will it cost?" "That’ll be $4,800. Here’s your new _____. All yours!"

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet

"That’s too long! You should change it every three months," the mechanic said. "Can you fix it?" Jake asked. "Yes, but it will cost $500," the mechanic said. Jake thought for a moment. "That’s expensive. Maybe I need a new car!" Lisa laughed. "Yes, or maybe you just need to take better care of this one!" Jake smiled. "You’re right! I will be more careful next time." Vocabulary: Overheating – When something gets too hot. Tow truck – A vehicle that helps move broken cars. Mechanic – A person who repairs cars. Battery – The part of the car that gives power. Hood – The front cover of a car’s engine.

Jake was driving to work when suddenly, his car stopped in the middle of the road. He tried to start it again, but nothing happened. "Oh no," he said, "not today!" A kind woman named Lisa saw Jake and stopped her car. "Do you need help?" she asked. Jake sighed. "Yes, my car won’t start. I think it’s the battery, but I’m not sure." Lisa looked at the car. "Let’s check," she said. She turned on the headlights. "The lights work, so it’s not the battery. Maybe the engine is too hot." Jake opened the hood, and they saw smoke coming out. "Oh no, it's overheating!" he said. "You should call a tow truck," Lisa suggested. Jake called a tow truck, and after 30 minutes, a mechanic arrived. He checked the engine. "When did you last change the oil?" the mechanic asked."Um… maybe six months ago?" Jake replied.
