Caring For the Device

General Care Expectations for Buncombe County Schools

Keep food or liquids far away from the BCS 1:1 device at all times.

Only BCS-provided chargers should be used with the devices due to safety and compatibility concerns.

Always carefully attach cords, cables, and removable storage devices.

Never lift the BCS 1:1 device by the screen.

Never use the BCS 1:1 device with the power cord plugged in when the cord may be a tripping hazard.

Avoid subjecting the BCS 1:1 device to extreme conditions. (e.g. extreme hot or cold, rain, damp locations, etc.)

BCS 1:1 device must remain free of any writing, drawing, etching, or stickers that are not the property of BCS.

Never remove or deface BCS or manufacturer labels.

Keep the BCS 1:1 device’s fan vents free from obstruction.

*This includes all barcodes- device barcode and student name barcode!

Under no circumstances should the BCS 1:1 device be left in any unsupervised areas. Unsupervised areas include the school grounds, the cafeteria, vehicles, bathrooms, the library, unlocked classrooms, gyms, and hallways. If a BCS 1:1 device is found in an unsupervised area, it should be taken immediately to the media center.

Heavy objects should never be placed on top of the BCS 1:1 device.

Do not leave the BCS 1:1 device laying flat on the floor.

Do not loan your BCS 1:1 device to another student.

Screen Care

The BCS 1:1 device screen can be easily damaged if subjected to heavy objects, rough treatment, some cleaning solvents, and other liquids. The screens are particularly sensitive to damage from excessive pressure, heat, and light.

Do not lean on or put pressure on the top of the BCS 1:1 device when it is closed.

Do not store the BCS 1:1 device with the screen in the open position.
Do not poke the screen or camera with anything that will damage, mark, or scratch the screen surface or camera.
Do not place anything on the keyboard before closing the lid (e.g. pens, pencils or disks).
DO clean the screen with a soft, dry microfiber cloth, or anti-static cloth only. Spray cleaner should be sprayed on the cloth and not directly onto the screen.
  • Shut down your BCS 1:1 device each evening before charging.
  • Charge your BCS 1:1 device each night.
  • Do not charge BCS 1:1 device while it is in a case/sleeve.
  • Keep the BCS 1:1 device away from pets and small children.
  • Do not loan your BCS 1:1 device to relatives or friends.
Using BCS Device Outside of School
  • Place the BCS 1:1 device in a backpack/case before transporting.
  • Never transport or store the BCS 1:1 device with the power cord plugged in.
  • Always transport the BCS 1:1 device with care and with the screen closed.
  • Keep the BCS 1:1 device and power adapter together.

Don't share your passwords! Keep your accounts safe.

Shut down your device daily using the menu, not the power button. This helps clean up temporary files.

Charge your laptop every night! This is your responsibility.

Restart your computer once a week. This helps your device get updates.

Take care of your device, you are reponsible for it.
