What is Right to Work?Right to Work is a legal requirement for anyone looking to work in the UK and Ireland. You automatically have the right to work in the UK or Ireland if you were born there, or if you’re a British or Irish citizen. How to Check Right to Work Evidence of Right to Work must be provided before the employee takes up employment with the company. When an employer checks a candidate’s right to work, they will need to check all documentation, such as Passport, E-VISA and/or Share Code. Employers can face fines of cira £20,000 or even face imprisonment if they’re found to have employed someone who does not have the right to work.

Tips
- Irish Citizens working within the Republic of Ireland do not require the Right To Work Document to be uploaded to the OneSource Portal case. However, when raising an onboarding case, the manager still must certify that they have seen the Right To Work documents.

Tips
- Students can only work 20 hours maximum per week as per the visa documents limitations
- Any students wishing to work more than 20 hours per week will need to be put down as overtime only (not in contract) and must only complete overtime outside of term time
- Students who have completed their studies can provide a letter confirming this in order to be hired on more than 20 hours per week
