Welcome Back!
Dr. Michael Ota- Michael comes from Oregon via Texas, where he taught math and special education for 20 years before becoming a behavior analyst working with adolescents and young adults with autism. Neurodivergent himself, his research focuses on using a community-collaborative-inclusive model in determining autism eligibility for special education, which has worked for his clients and own son in successfully accessing services. This is Michael’s first position as a professor, and—even though his family stayed behind in Texas—he is enjoying the 25-degree difference in temperatures!
Dr. Debalina Maitra- Debalina is an Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership (Teacher Leadership) at Kennesaw State University. Before joining KSU, she served as an Assistant Professor in the Curriculum and Instruction Department at New Mexico Highlands University, primarily working with students pursuing alternative licensure pathways. She has completed two postdoctoral fellowships centered on STEM education. Through her academic scholarship, Debalina focuses on amplifying marginalized students' experiences, voices, and cultural capital, striving to create more inclusive and equitable educational environments. Her research bridges STEM education through an equity lens, deeply rooted in critical theories and dedicated to driving transformational change. Born and raised in India, Debalina immigrated to the U.S. to pursue higher studies. She speaks, reads, and writes three languages fluently. She enjoys hiking, gardening, visiting museums, and listening to music in her free time.
