La torre è simbolo di Berna perchè rappresenta la puntualità degli svizzeri.Fu eretto nel 1191 e veniva considerato la porta principale della città. Ogni ora la piazza dell'orologio si riempie di visitatori in attesa di vedere orsi, giullari e altre figure meccaniche spuntare dall'orologio.
