The Summer Olympic Games in Paris started with a spectacular opening ceremony. It took place on July 26th Many people watched it, and it was an amazing show. The ceremony took place along the River Seine, and athletes from different countries floated down the Seine on boats, proudly waving their flags. One of the most special moments was when the Olympic torch lit the floating cauldron, officially starting the Games. Several famous artists performed during the ceremony. Celine Dion sang live for the first time since 2020, Lady Gaga and Aya Nakamura also sang on the global stage. For the first time in Olympic history, the opening ceremony was organized outside a stadium. There were many athletes from Team USA, like LeBron James, who were cheered by over 300,000 fans along the river.

During a campaign rally (meeting) on Saturday in Butler, Pennsylvania, former President Donald Trump was giving a speech when a shooting happened. Two Secret Service sniper teams were on the rooftops to protect him. Just before 6:15, gunfire started, and President Trump was hit by a bullet in the ear. The shooter was on a building about 450 feet away from where Trump was speaking. Immediately, Secret Service agents rushed to protect Trump and pulled him to safety. Sadly, one spectator was killed, and two others were seriously injured. The gunman, a 20-year-old boy named Thomas Matthew Crooks, was shot and killed by the FBI.
