LINEAR PERSPECTIVE
HORIZON LINE
the imaginary boundary that indicates the height of the viewers eyes
the illusion of 3-D space and depth in a 2-D artwork.
DO you know these terms?
ATMOSPHERIC PERSPECTIVE
THUMBNAIL SKETCH
a small sketch that helps the artist prepare a composition
the illusion of depth in an image created by changes in color and value.
Where is the background in this image?
Annotate! Circle the dot that shows the background!
A color scheme that is made of the tints and shades of one color.
What does "MONOCHROMATIC" mean?
Which of these images shows a SKYLINE?
drag it here!
LOOK at this cool illusion!
Linear Perspective
The illusion of 3D space in 2D pictures or artwork. Notice the arrows all go to one spot where the objects seem to disappear?
Horizon Line
The imaginary boundary that shows where the land meets the sky.
Vanishing Point
The place where the parallel lines meet and seem to disappear. The vanishing point is always on the horizon line.
Orthogonal Lines
These are the parallel lines that meet at the vanishing point.
Drag the term to the correct hotspot

One-Point Perspective Forms
Today you will use... -line -shape -values -form to create this one-point perspective artwork.
You will be layering white and color on black construction paper. You will do this to help us show value.
Adding value can help make an artwork appear 3D!
Contrast
Contrast is the difference between values. The bigger the difference, the higher the contrast.
Contrast with Color
You can create contrast with color by making tints and shades of a color.

You will need:
Atmospheric Perspective Landscape Painting
- acrylic paint - canvas board - cup of water - eraser - landscape thumbnails - paint palette - paint brushes - paper towel - pencil

What happens to the colors between the foreground and the background in this landscape?
Atmospheric Perspective
Atmospheric Perspective
The illusion of depth in an image created by changes in color and value.
As land goes further into the distance, notcie that they appear: -less intensely colored -lighter in value -softer or hazier -less detailed
Monochromatic
Monochromatic is Art that is created by using tints and shades of only one color. You will choose one color and use a monochromatic color scheme for your atmospheric perspective landscape today!
Monochromatic Landscape with Atmospheric Perspective
-The lightest values, or TINTS, are used in the background/sky
-Medium values are used in the middle ground
-Land features are sillouettes. They are the same tint or shade they are connected to.
-SHADES are used in the foreground

Lesson 2.5Assignment: Critique
Learn two different types of responses
You will need:
Critique
Learn how to use the responses in a critique
Art Show
Critique your classmates' artworks
Your finished monochromatic landscape
Vocabulary
objective responses subjective responses
Subjective REspOnse
Did you ever look at an artwork and say ...
OR
Oh, I like that art because they used my favorite colors!
This art reminds me of a funny memory.
These kind of responses are called subjective.
Subjective responses are real and valid. But they can be presented in a kind manner.
Remember the guiding questions of a critique:
- Is my feedback specific?
- Is it helpful?
If your subjective response includes things that you like and do not like, it can still be helpful if it is specific.
Objective REspOnse
What if you just stated the facts or the things you can observe in the artwork? For example
- It is made from watercolor
- It is monochromatic
- it has a figure in the foreground
- the subject is a landscape
- the trees are overlapping
These observations are objective because everyone can agree they are present in the artwork.
Drag the responses to match

This subject is a portrait.
This art makes me feel calm and relaxed.
I notice the horizon line in this drawing.
Wow, I love your painting because I like animals.
This art uses primary colors.
Before we can critque our art, we need to know the requirements...
The landscape needs:
foreground, middleground, and background
horizon line or a skyline
A monochromatic color scheme was used
Atmospheric perspective using the correct tints and shades
Remember to be Kind, Helpful, and Specific!
Critique your classmates artwork
Go to the PADLET link in the chat
Remember the helpful critique questions:
Share your art by creating a post and taking a picture. (remember to add your name!)
- What about this artwork is successful?
- What could be changed to help improve this artwork?
Choose one classmate's art and answer the two critique questions.
Answer the critique questions for the one artwork you chose!

- where you put the back edge of the surface the objects sit on
- which forms are close and which are further away.
