Start
Area and Surface Area Unit Overview
You will find areas of polygons by decomposing, rearranging, and composing shapes.
You will approximate areas of non-polygonal regions by using polygons.
You will represent polyhedra with nets and find their surface areas.
You will understand and use the terms base and height, and find areas of parallelograms and triangles.
This unit will have two quizzes and a unit test.
Tiling the Plane
Objectives
tile a plane to cover a two-dimensional region with copies of the same shape or shapes so that there are no gaps or overlaps
associate the word area with the amount of the plane a shape covers
Curriculum Kit Materials: Math Notebook pattern blocks
Vocabulary: tiling the plane area
Warm-up
Welcome to the Warm Up section of the lesson! Today's Warm Up routine is Which One Does Not Belong, where you will observe some shapes formed into patterns.
Geometry is a branch of math that studies the size, shapes, and positions of things. In this first unit, you will explore shapes and patterns in many ways.
