This festival celebrates the arrival of the Three Kings at the stable where Jesus was born. On the night of the 5th January, parades take place across Spain where the Three Kings process through the towns. In Spain, rather than Father Christmas bringing the presents to children’s houses on the 25th December, it’s the Kings, who bring the gifts early on the 6th January, making this festival a lot more exciting than Christmas for most Spanish children.

La Nochevieja
El 31 de diciembre
Nochevieja literally means ‘old night’ and refers to New Years’ Eve. On this night, families often gather together to share a meal before welcoming in the New Year. Celebrations look a lot like the ones we have in the UK but with one big difference. The Spanish have a very unique New Year’s tradition which involves eating twelve grapes at midnight, one on each strike of the clock. It’s actually quite tricky, but those who do manage it are said to have good luck for the whole year!
