VS

Routes

  • There are 5 routes available.
  • These depend on pathway, level (Foundation or Year One) and University.

Study Plan Changes frequent questions

How many times can I change my degree?

If you already had a degree change approved, you cannot apply for a second change. Because of this, please choose carefully before making an application. If you have changed but for any reason are considering another change, please talk to your PASS Coach.

Do attendance and grades mattter?

Attendance, formative and summative grades matter. Your application can be refused if your attendance and grades are not good enough.

Why can't I change routes after Week 4?

Different routes have different modules. Changing routes means you are changing at least 1 module. 4 weeks of material is the maximum of material lost that most students can catch up with and still progress. Even if you think 'I can do it', this is the rule and no exceptions are made if you change too late.

Why can't I change pathways?

Your pathway is on your CAS, and you cannot change your CAS once you 'arrive'. If you wish to change pathway, you need to withdraw your place, leave the UK (withdrawal means cancellation of your BRP and visa), and apply again from home.

Why was my change refused?

Changes are not automatically accepted. Reasons for refusals can include:

  • changing too late
  • changing to an oversubscribed degree
  • changing to a degree not available
  • changing to a degree with higher requirements
  • changing between pathways
If you are not sure, use the contact form and direct your query to LBUISCProgression.

Formative vs summative assessments

Personal Mitigating Circumstances (PMC)

Formative vs. summative assessments

Home

  • Does not contribute towards your final GPA.
  • A formative assessment:
    • helps you understand your level of knowledge
    • helps you understand the mistakes you makes
    • is a chance for you to get feedback on your work before summative assessments.
  • By doing well in your formative assessment, you will be prepared and be in a good position to achieve great scores in your summative assessments.

Formative assessment

VS

Summative assessment

  • Contributes towards your final GPA.
  • The grades from your summative assessments go through a process of second marking, moderation, external examination, and are the ones that will be in your interim results or transcript.
  • Your performance in your summatives depends on how well you do in your formative assessments and on using the feedback from the formatives to improve yourself.

Extensions

Home

An extension is when you request extra time on work submitted. This can apply to essays, reports, or any work you hand in. They are not automatically approved. You can ask for an extension at least a week before the deadline.

When can I ask for an extension ?You can ask for an extension for your work when there have been extenuating circumstances for why you cannot submit on time.Examples: You had an accident and your arm is in a cast, you had a recent bereavement, etc.If you are not sure, please get in contact with your PASS coach. How do I ask for an extension? Please use the contact form.I asked for an extension, does this mean I get it?No, extensions are not automatically approved. Can I ask for an extension for an exam? No. Extensions are only for work you hand in - not exams. If you have extenuating circumstances for an exam, you must complete a PMC form. The deadline passed, can I still ask for an extension? No, you must submit a PMC. You can choose to ask for late penalties to be removed, or you can ask to submit again as a first try, or something else.

Personal Mitigating Circumstances (PMC)

Home

A PMC is a form you can complete to request to retake an assessment as a first try, or to have late penalties removed.A PMC needs to be approved by a board and is not automatically granted.

When can I ask for a PMC?If you experience an issue, such as a medical condition, that affects your learning and assessment and believe that you were disadvantaged by this, you can apply for Personal Mitigating Circumstances. Examples: you had a recent bereavement and feel the work you did was not your best, you were in the hospital during the exam, you had an accident and missed the deadline etc.If you are not sure, please get in contact with your PASS coach. How do I ask for a PMC?Please complete the contact form.I am asked for evidence. What evidence do I need to submit?A PMC needs evidence to be considered. The evidence depends on what your reasoning was. If you are not sure, please get in contact with your PASS coach. Are PMCs automatically accepted? No. Please be advised there is a chance your PMC will not be accepted. This usually is due to having an invalid reason to request one or no evidence.

Academic Impropriety

Home

Academic Impropriety is when you have commited an act of misconduct in your assessment. This is any action that gives a student an unfair advantage above other students - such as using AI, plagiarism, collusion.

What do I do now?You will be asked to attend a meeting. It is very important you attend, come prepared and are honest in this meeting. What happens next?Your case will be taken to a board, which will decide the outcome. Can I fail if I have Academic Misconduct? It is possible to fail if you have commited Academic Misconduct.I received 0 (zero) 'with no opportunity to resit', but that was my first attempt. Can I still resit to prove myself? No. If the outcome was that you received 0 with no opportunity to resit, this means you cannot resit that specific assessment anymore, with no exceptions.

Conditional & unconditional offers

Direct Entry process - Applying to Leeds Beckett University

CAS letters

Home

We review all information we have and what we need for your application

The University will send your conditional offer letters

Week 7

As you settle to University, we start preparing your application

We send the applications to the University

Direct Entry

Preparing your application We start preparing your application as soon as you settle in your studies. This gives you enough time to consider if you wish to change your degree. As the University will prepare your CAS for next year, we will look at all documents and information we have and send them over to your progression University. This can include: your LBUISC CAS letter, passport photo, previous study information, previous visa information, phone numbers, personal e-mail, address. We may reach out to you for further information - it is very important you answer as soon as possible.

Sending the information Once we gather all information, we send it over. From this point, the University will start processing conditional offer letters. They may come back for additional information- we will e-mail you if that happens.

Direct entry e-mails If we miss information or documents, we will e-mail you. We may also e-mail you to check one last time if your personal e-mail is still the same. This is because your LBUISC e-mail will expire in August, and your University will email your CAS, conditional and unconditional offer on your personal e-mail. Please ensure you answer 'Direct Entry' e-mails as soon as possible. Not answering will delay your conditional offer letter.

What we have and what we need There are occasions information we have does not match what we need. For example, you may have changed your personal e-mail. Or your final high school transcript was not released when you were accepted at LBUISC, but now we need a finalised one. Or your home address is not correctly filled in. We will look through documents and information we have on you, to make sure the Universities are sent the correct information.

Conditional vs unconditional offer

Home

  • A conditional offer assures you of your place if you pass your requirements.
  • Your conditional offer will be sent on your personal e-mail.
  • You must check your offer for any mistakes or misspellings.

Conditional offer

VS

Unconditional offer

  • An unconditional offer is given at the end of the year, only if you passed and progressed.
  • Your unconditional offer will be sent on your personal e-mail.
  • If you have not checked your conditional offer for mistakes and noticed them now, this can lead to the delay of your CAS letter.

CAS Letters for 25/26

Home

Your CAS letter at LISC is only valid for 1 year.Through 'Direct Entry', we send information for your progression University to prepare your next CAS.We do not prepare your CAS at LBUISC level.

Can I stay in the UK or do I need to leave the UK in order to apply for my next visa? You will need to leave the UK. You must ensure you don't remain in the UK with an expired BRP or visa. This will mean you would be staying illegally in the UK and will affect your ability to get further visas. When will my CAS for September 2023 be released? After you pass and progress, we will send your transcript to your University.

  • For Leeds Beckett University students, LBU will be in contact around 4-6 weeks later as well, for you to complete a CAS form.
I can't find my CAS.Have you passed and progressed? Have 6 weeks passed since you got your transcript? If the answer to both questions is yes, please contact Leeds Beckett University.

Pass & progress

Met Threshold

Fail

Referred for resits

There are 3 outcomes you can have at the end of your journey at LBUISC. Pass & Progress, Met Threshold, and Fail. In addition, a 4th 'outcome' exists while there is a reassessment period - this is called 'referred for resits'.

I have not passed & progressed - what next?

Outcome - Pass & Progress

Home

This means that you have passed your year at LBUISC, and you have progressed to your chosen university. All you need to do is wait for your progression University to get in touch with you.

What do I do next?If you passed and progressed, you will received your final transcript on your LBU e-mail. Your progression University will also receive your transcript and will start processing your unconditional offer and CAS.LBU will reach out to you with a CAS form to complete yourself. You must accept your offer to do this. Are my grades final?Grades in your final transcript have gone through a 'Programme Assessment Board' and are final. This also means you cannot resit anymore, even if you wish to get a higher grade.Note: we do not have any control over the issuance of conditional offers or CAS letters – this is solely managed by the universities

Outcome - refered for resits

Home

Is this my transcript? No. If you have been advised to resit, you have received 'Interim results'. In interim results, you see what you obtained in each component - your transcript will only tell you the module overall (apart from AES).Your transcript will be released after you pass, fail, or meet threshold. What do I need to resit? The e-mail containing your Interim Results also contains the componenents you need to resit. Please check the Academic Calendar for the deadlines/dates of these assessments. Can I resit other components? You do not have to resit any other components. If you want to resit any extra components to ensure you pass, please talk to the tutor of the module you wish to resit.

This means that you still have a chance to pass or progress. If you received this, you have been sent your interim results and have been told what to resit.

Outcome - Met Threshold

Home

If you meet threshold, this means that you have successfully passed the course, but you have not managed to progress to your chosen University.

Why have I met threshold? Please check your module requirements carefully. This could be because you have not met your GPA (e.g. You have 65% but need 70%) or you have not met specific module requirements (e.g. you have 46% in Reading but need 55%).Can I still resit? No. If you Met Threshold, you either 'maxxed' all resit opportunities or reached the final resit period.Remember, each student can only resit an assessment once. What do I do now?At this point, you would be given information from the LBUISC Progression Support team about alternatives and next steps.

Outcome - Fail

Home

Can I resit? If you failed, you are unable to resit. You either 'maxxed' all resit opportunities or reached the final resit period. What do I do now?At this point, you would be informed of this outcome and referred to the Progression team for further support. If you choose to engage with this support, we can discuss with you what the best next steps might be.

If you have failed the year, this means you have obtained less than 40 in one or more modules or AES components.

What next?

Home

If you have met threshold or failed, there may still be ways Study Group or LBUISC can support you. Please be advised a high attendance and high AES result are necessary when applying to these opportunities.
