Career Pathways: Share your career pathway: send us a summary of your career pathway along with a photo of yourself. We will create a shareable graphic (see attached example) for use throughout Technician Week 2024 to demonstrate the variety of routes technical staff have taken through their professional journeys. Contribute to a blog post: write a blog post about your career path, or answer some questions and send us some photos and we will write the blog for you. Be a guest on our podcast: Talk about your career journey on our podcast, sharing your experiences and insights.
Share images, quotes and more with us and feature on our X page through Technician Week
Other ways to participate: Share a Quote: Provide us with a short quote finishing the sentence 'I love being a technician because...' or 'Technical staff are important because...', along with a photo of yourself, which we will share on X/Twitter throughout the week. Technician Takeover: Take control of our X/Twitter account for a few hours and share posts about your day as a technician. 90 second intro video: Send us a short video introducing yourself, your role, and why you find your work meaningful.
Not a technician? No problem, there are still ways that you can get involved:
Share a quote: provide us with a short quote about the importance of technical staff and how they have supported your projects or teaching, along with a photo of you. 90s second video: Send us a video talking about how technical staff have been involved in your work and highlight their contributions and impact. Technician-Led Tours: (not social media but still just as fun) sign up to attend a technician-led tour. We have a number of technicians leading tours, showcasing some of the incredible work they do, in areas which are often behind-the-scenes.

The British Sign Language Meet-&-Greet sessions will help teach participants how to use sign language and fingerspelling to communicate with deaf staff and students – no prior knowledge/experience is necessary. It will be a friendly and supportive environment and the format is similar to that used by Janette in monthly sessions she has hosted on the Central campus over the last couple of years. Janette will be supported by a BSL interpreter. This is a great networking opportunity and a chance to have a go with BSL!

IAT provide technicians with a career pathway, awarding qualifications and training for Named People, including Named Animal Care and Welfare Officers (NACWO). We would be delighted to see there and join us for a tea/coffee. There will also be facilities tours of both a rodent facility and an aquatics facility on offer. Spaces are limited on these tours, and you will need to book these separately and in advance. More information about the tours is available on the separate booking pages.

Cardiac arrest occurs when the heart stops pumping blood around the body, and causes a person to collapse and stop breathing normally. Everyone can play a role in the chain of survival, whether it’s by calling 999, doing chest compression’s, locating a defibrillator, or telling others what to do. Everyone is welcome to come along no matter what age it is a life skill that is super important. It can be a sensitive topic and a video relating to CPR may be shown.

As technicians, we not only assist with projects and courses but also guide and mentor students and staff, fostering trust and understanding. We showcase materials, demonstrate techniques, and offer creative solutions, all to help our colleagues and students deepen their understanding and expand their horizons. We are constantly learning and adapting, staying abreast of the latest developments in our fields to meet the evolving needs of the courses and the individuals we support. This adaptability is crucial as courses change, and we strive to provide the best possible guidance and support. The “Creating Connections” exhibition is an opportunity for us to come together and share our own artistic practices. It's a chance to build connections, learn from one another, and step out of our daily routines. This event is a celebration of the strength, resilience, and dedication that we bring to our roles. Technicians are integral to the success of the university, providing essential support throughout each term. Tonight, we come together to celebrate our pride in our work and in our artistic lives, both within and outside the university. Let's enjoy the evening, connect with each other, and celebrate the invaluable contributions of our technician community. This year's Showcase will include unveiling of the winners of this year's Technician Image Competition.

The session will provide a writing retreat style space where we will work through the sections of the Advance HE Associate Fellowship application process, aiming to complete the application on the day, although there may be some follow-up work after the event. The workshops will have moments of instruction and information, followed by discussion and then writing in a facilitated environment where colleagues can look to complete the bulk of their application.
