Use your mouse to find all (6) Six interactive areas. All but (1) one are clickable
Back to Room
Temperature
To get a temperature reading, use the removable thermometer that is mounted on the wall. Follow procedures to obtain either an oral, axillary, or rectal temperature. Once the probe is in place, a reading will automatically display on the patient monitor (a reading will not display on the handheld thermometer)
Pulse Oximetry
Once you attach the pulse ox probe to your patient, the SpO2 reading will display automatically & continuously. If the probe is removed, the reading will stop. Touching this area will not display information
Note that both SpO2 and pulse readings are assessed via this method
Phone
The phone in simulation is used to communicate with members of the interprofessional healthcare team and support staff during the scenario. Please note:
- All calls should be conducted on speakerphone (button labeled to the left)
- Calls may be made outward by participants or into the room from a provider or support staff
Review the video posted in your blackboard shell to become familiar with the Simulation Electronic Health Record (EHR). The patient's chart will be accessible during simulation activities. Participants can use the bedside computer to review chart information, record vital signs, and administer medications.
More Options Button
Touching this button provides a new selection of buttons at the bottom of the monitor including:
- Adjusting monitor and alarm volumes
- Viewing radiology imaging*
- Viewing media*
- Viewing report*
* When identified as being used by your instructor during prebriefing
Blood Pressure
Once you Touch the correct area on the screen, you will see the words disappear and a new button appear on the bottom panel labeled "Start/Stop"
Once you're ready to start the BP reading, press that button (Pulsing blue ring)
Watch the video above to learn about the features and capabilities of one of the patient simulators used in simulation. Remember, regardless of what a manikin can or cannot do, you are expected to suspend your disbelief and treat the patient and situation as if it was real at ALL TIMES.
Phone Directory
The directory is posted above every phone throughout the Sim Center. Use this directory to call the appropriate person (if needed) during your simulation experiences.
Instructions:
- Press speaker phone button
- Dial the corresponding extension
Continuous EKG
Continuous cardiac monitoring will be only be available when EKG leads are applied to the patient.
Side Wall
Gloves, thermometer, and sharps containers are available for student use. All items should be used as they would be in a real world clinical setting.
Thermometer:
- Handheld and removable from the dock
- Temperature readings will display on the patient monitor - NOT the thermometer itself
Supply Cart
The supply cart is stocked with all of the items needed in any given situation. During simulations, please thoroughly search cart if you cannot find the item you need. If you still cannot find the supplies you need, please verbalize it to the room. If possible, the supplies will be provided.
Patient Monitor
The patient monitor provides all vital sign data for your patient as you conduct your assessment. Note:
The Pulse Oximetry sensor will always be hanging on the monitor at the start of each scenario.
*Click the monitor to the left to review how to operate each element of the patient monitor*
Headwall
Contains:
- Oxygen Regulator
- Medical Air Regulator
- Suction Regulator + Canister
- Code Button
When caring for a patient, utilize the headwall elements as you believe fit to provide optimal care.
