The attack on Pearl Harbor was a shocking surprise. Japan attacked the US naval base at 7:55 am with 353 aircraft dropping bombs on docked American ships. More than 2,000 people were killed. At the time, the United States was a neutral country and had not taken a side in World War II. World War II started in 1939 when Germany attacked Poland. Pearl Harbor caused the United States to enter into the war. With the help of the United States, Germany, Japan, and Italy were defeated. Pearl Harbor was a turning point in history and made it impossible for America to sit on the sidelines.
