Create Worker Surveys with Pulse

This clickable walkthrough will take you through the process of creating worker or applicant surveys in Pulse as an administrator

Begin by adding a + Create pulse check on the Pulse Checks screen

In this scenario, we'll have a worker receive an SMS pulse check survey created in Communicate. We'll begin by using the product as an Administrator to create the survey

First, we need to type a name for the survey. Click the Pulse check Name box

Now we need to select the build method. You can choose to build with AI, by selecting a previously created template, use an NPS Survey question, or from scratch. Let's build one from scratch.

Click the box to type an introductory message for the worker.

Awesome! That looks pretty great but we could probably make it a bit shorter.

Much better. Now we have some choices to make for the survey landing page. We can anonymize the results, give a duration nudge, give a social proof nudge, or include notice or policy content.

Click the toggles to turn on the Duration nudge and Social proof nudge.

Great! Now we need to add questions to the survey. We can add open questions, choices, boolean, or scored questions.

Let's add a Boolean question to start.

When crafting a question, you'll select a theme and decide if it is an optional question. Themes allow you to categorize your checks. You may select “Edit” to add or remove Themes, as well as to view their usage across other pulse checks. This question will be part of the Onboarding Theme and will be a required question. You can also select various answer types depending on the question type selected. For this question, we've selected a Thumbs Up/Down response.

Let's add another question. Click the Add button.

Click Score to add a scored questoin type.

You can see for this question, we've selected Emojis and also added this question to the Onboarding Theme.

Click the Save as button at any time during the pulse check creation process to save as a new template or as a draft. Please note, Pulse will auto save your progress while you work!

Now we can add a survey conclusion. Click the Conclusion box.

Great! We're ready to set up collection! Click the Collect button.

We need to select Segments of workers to send this pulse check to. Segments must be created before you create your pulse check.

Now we will select the collection cadence. You can send it in one shot, over time, or when triggered by something happening in the worker's life cycle such as hitting a milestone.

Let's send this pulse check in One Shot.

Great! The last step is decide whether we are sending this pulse check via email, SMS, or both. There will be default messages for both delivery methods but you can click the edit icon to customize the message.

Click the toggles to send via email and SMS.

Click Activate.

At the bottom, you can see summary of which Segments the pulse check will be sent to, how often, and via which delivery methods.

We can activate the pulse check now or schedule it for later. Click Activate now.

Please note, once your pulse check is active, you cannot add workers or change the segment it is sent to!

Question Type Options
  • Open Question: Allows the worker to enter a freeform typed answer.
  • Choices: Provides the worker a series of selectable answer choices.
  • Boolean: Provides the worker Yes/No, True/False, or Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down answers to choose from.
  • Score: The worker will from a 5-point scoring system such as emojis or stars.
Pulse Analytics

Review the Pulse Dashboard to see pulse check performance over time including completion rate, completion per length, sentiment analysis, risk of churn, and your top performers!

Build Method Options
  • Build with AI: Create your survey by responding to targeted questions, allowing Pulse's AI to process the information and create a comprehensive survey which can then be adjusted.
  • Select a template: Explore a collection of pre-designed templates created by Fountain. You can also save surveys you create as a template to use in the future via the Create from scratch option.
  • NPS survey: Create a Net Promoter Score survey. This option will use a single question with asks the receiver how likely they are to recommend your product or service to others on a scale from 0 to 10.
  • Create from scratch: Create your survey via a blank slate. This option includes various tools to craft custom questions and incorporate different response formats, including boolean, numerical scores, open-ended questions, and more.
Advanced Survey Options
  • Anonymize the results: Turning this toggle on will hide the worker's identity when completing the survey. Please note, if this toggle is turned on you will not be able to prompt workers who have not yet responded.
  • Duration nudge: Turning this toggle on will display an estimated time required to complete the survey to the worker. 1 minute is added per question. For example, if your survey has 4 questions, the estimated time to complete will be 4 minutes.
  • Social proof nudge: Turning this toggle on will show the worker he number of colleagues (in the same Segment) who have already completed the survey encouraging them to also complete it.
  • Notice or Policy content: Turning this toggle on gives you an additional text box to add a notice or policy which will be visible to the worker. For example, you may add a note about the survey being anonomys (if you are using Anonymize the results) or a note with a contact where the worker can reach out to address concerns or provide more feedback.
