Learning Goals and Standards
Segment 1 Learning Goals
Segment 2 Learning Goals
Module 1: The student will be able to define the five components of health – related fitness, explain how FITT and SPORT principles lead to increased fitness levels, and give examples of safety considerations that must be made in various fitness activities.
Module 4: The student will be able to identify signs of abuse/suicide/ depression, discuss various metal health concerns and strategies, explain benefits and dangers of social media, explain how technology influences health, and how caloric input and output relate to health.
Module 2: The student will be able to explain the importance of warming up, and cooling down, how peers and media images can influence health beliefs and behaviors, define the six components of skill – related fitness, and identify risks associated with unhealthy diets.
Module 5: The student will be able to explain social, emotional, cognitive, and physical risks involved with using alcohol/tobacco/drugs, cite refusal and negotiation skills needed to avoid health risks, explain how government regulations can influence drug/alcohol/tobacco use, discuss the difference between substance abuse and substance use, and options for addiction treatment.
Module 3: The student will be able to explain the long-term benefits of regular physical activity, the relationship between culture and sports, how to show sportsmanship for people of diverse backgrounds and abilities, how to assess the reliability of health and fitness ads, how stress and happiness affect health, and how to manage and resolve stress and interpersonal conflicts.
Module 6: The student will be able to identify health related problems associated with low levels of fitness and unhealthy body composition, identify behaviors and health practices to maintain or improve health and reduce health risks and disease, explain various types of first aid, and use negotiation and collaboration skills with physicians and healthcare providers.
