IMMERSIVE ASSESSMENT HANDBOOK

NATIONAL GRADUATE LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME

Our Immersive Assessment - For every school, is a unique opportunity for you to experience what it is like to be a neighbourhood police officer. You will experience not only the day-to-day tasks of a neighbourhood police officer but also the preventative and transformative role they hold in our communities. You'll put yourself in the heart of the community and become an active member, where you'll have conversations, solve problems and make impactful decisions. The assessment is accessed online and can be completed from anywhere.By the end of the assessment, you will gain an awareness of the types of issues and challenges neighbourhoods face and the vital role that a neighbourhood police officer plays in resolving these issues, and making a positive impact in their communities. This handbook has been designed to help you prepare for the assessment and set you up for success. As you navigate through the handbook, you'll find useful information on what to expect, as well as top tips and guidance.

OVERVIEW

You will need to reflect on your motivations for becoming a neighbourhood police officer. The more you research, the better you can demonstrate your knowledge and enthusiasm for joining Police Now. The immersive assessment consists of several components, where you'll face different scenarios and tasks you may encounter in the role. A significant aspect of the role involves establishing lasting relationships within your community and collaborating with various partners, including schools, GPs, charities, and social services etc. You'll start your day meeting your Sergeant, who will take you through a set of questions that will explore your motivation for the role. You'll also meet policing colleagues whom you've never worked with before, who will ask you some questions to find out more about your personality and working styles to see if you align with the role.

You will respond to the scenarios using a five-point Likert scale. The choices will range from Strongly Disagree to Strongly Agree, and Very Ineffective to Very Effective, see below for example.

You'll encounter a puzzle as part of the assessment. Your goal is to create a valid path in the least number of moves or clicks. A timer will be displayed on-screen, but it does not affect your overall assessment score, and is there to make sure you're not spending too much time on the puzzle. Watch the video below, to learn how to complete the puzzle.
