Read carefully as there is a quiz next!
1. Accidental Deletion This is the most common cause of data loss in Microsoft 365. Whether accidental or malicious, data deletion is replicated across the network. Native recycle bins and version histories included as part of Microsoft 365 can only do so much and to guarantee data recovery a full backup is required.
2. Retention policy gaps and confusion For modern organisations, retention policies are often changing and difficult to keep up with - let alone manage. Microsoft has limited in-built retention policies that only assist with situational data loss. These policies are not designed to be an all-encompassing backup solution. A Backup provides a longer and more accessible data retention, protected and stored for easy recovery.
3. Internal security threats Threats from within the business itself happen more than you may think. Microsoft has no way of knowing the difference between a regular user and a terminated employee attempting to delete company data. Having a backup and recovery solution in place, with insider threat protection ensures organisations are protected from the inside out.
4. External security threats Malware and Ransomware are two of the highest security threats to organisations today – putting business data, customer data and company reputation at risk. Exchange Online’s limited backup and recovery functionality is not enough to protect against serious cyber threats and a regular Backup is essential to recover from an incident. Utilising AI-driven email protection, CloudCover 365 can also be paired with CloudCover Cyber Protect Services to help the first line of defence against Cybercrime.
5. Legal and compliance requirements Amid legal action, organisations often need to retrieve emails, files and other data quickly. To assist with this, Microsoft provides some features including litigation hold and retention, but this is not a guaranteed solution for data recovery. With a complete Microsoft 365 backup in place, organisations can restore data from any point in time to meet legal obligations.
6. Managing hybrid email deployments and migrations to Microsoft 365 Organisations migrating fully to Microsoft 365 often require a transition window, but alternatively, some choose to deploy a hybrid email solution. It’s important to find a Microsoft 365 backup service that offers flexibility across email deployments.
7. Teams data structure Microsoft Teams is now a business staple in a hybrid working world. As the software interacts with other Microsoft 365 services, including SharePoint and OneDrive for Business, its data is stored in multiple locations which adds layers of complexity to the protection of its data. In addition to the application data, Teams also has settings, configurations and memberships which need to be protected and recoverable. Using the ‘complete backup’ function within CloudCover 365, along with the configuration protection within CloudCover Guardian for Azure ensures your Microsoft Teams data is completely protected.
