The Food Pyramid
How do we know which foods to eat to stay healthy? The Food Pyramid is an easy way to see what we should eat. Doctors and scientists agree that the human diet should be about 55% grains, vegetables and fruit. These foods are full of nutrients, vitamins and energy.
The Food Pyramid
We build and maintain strong muscles by eating meat and fish. These should make up about 25% of our diet. Some people do not eat meat, but can gain the same nutrients from beans and legumes. For a balanced diet, it is important to eat some kind of protein.
The Food Pyramid
It can be unhealthy to eat too much fatty cheese and dairy, because they can cause obesity. Eating some dairy helps to maintain healthy teeth and bones and is a dietary requirement. People should include about 15% dairy in their diets.
The Food Pyramid
Oils, cakes and sweets are often comfort foods, but they should usually be avoided. Too much of this food can cause your health to suffer, and you to become overweight. Doctors advise that only 5% of our diet is junk food. Now that's a challenge!
