Field Friends
Running was Jude's favorite activity. He enjoyed the fresh air and the time to think. Jude tried to run every day, but sometimes a pain in his leg, from an old injury, stopped him. Jude often saw interesting things on his runs, but he usually did not respond.
The Accident
The Accident
Jude remembers one run very well. He was jogging his usual route through town, when he noticed a hazard on the road ahead. An electrical pole had fallen, and smoke was coming from the open cables. A car was traveling up the same road very quickly. The driver did not see the hazard!
The Accident
At the last minute, the driver turned the car to avoid the dangerous cables, but he turned too far! The car crashed! Safe from the cables, Jude hurried over to help. The driver exited the car, but he was hurt. He sat down on the road while Jude did first aid.
The Accident
Jude asked someone to call an ambulance. The driver would need medical attention to diagnose his injuries, and maybe a visit to the hospital. Jude could tell the police had already been called, as he could hear the sirens responding in the distance.
The Accident
Although the driver was a stranger to Jude, Jude made the decision to stay with him until paramedics arrived. Jude was calm and told the driver he was safe. The firefighters arrived with equipment to prevent others from injury from the electrical cables. With people he could trust to the rescue, Jude continued on his run.
The Accident
Reflection
- What was the problem on the road where Jude ran?
- Did Jude call the ambulance or police himself?
- What evidence shows the driver was not seriously injured?
