Friends
The group of friends made their way to Sal’s Diner, where they enjoyed a delicious lunch. Once they were finished, they had to decide where to go next. “I really need to buy some new shoes,” Penny said. “Let’s go to the Strand.” “The Strand is so crowded on Saturdays,” Kadie complained. “I was really hoping to walk somewhere quiet and calm.”
Conflict
“We could go to the Forest Path,” Kadie suggested. “The Forest Path is so boring,” Elliot complained. “I really wanted to hear the new band that’s playing on the River Walk.” “Plus, if we go to the River Walk, we could get ice cream,” Penny whispered to Elliot. “The River Walk is even more crowded than the Strand,” Kadie groaned. “I really wanted to see the big dahlias that are in bloom under the trees.”
Negotiate
The group was silent for a moment. “I don’t think there is any way we can all be happy,” Elliot frowned. “Unless we do all three,” Kadie exclaimed. “The Strand is right over there. If we walk up the Strand for two blocks and then turn right, we’ll be right next to the River Walk.” “We can rest and have ice cream while we listen to the band,” Elliot suggested. “Right, and then we can turn off the River Walk, and go down the hill and we’ll be right next to the beginning of the Forest Path.”
“That sounds perfect,” Penny stated. The friends linked arms and started walking toward the Strand. Penny bought a new pair of purple, high-top sneakers. They all enjoyed ice cream while listening to the band, and Kadie took a ton of photos of the enormous purple and yellow dahlias in the forest. They stood at the end of the Forest Path and debated what to do.
What might have happened if no one agreed to compromise?
