Allen gave his friend a high five and then searched the paper for his own name.
Mark and Allen pushed their way to the front of the group that had gathered next to the bulletin board. The auditions for the musical had finished yesterday and now the parts were going to be posted. “Congratulations Mark!” a tall sophomore yelled out, so Mark pushed closer. He was shocked to see his name at the very top of the paper. He had the starring role.

"That’s a big job,” Mark said calmly. “You have to be prepared to fill in for any role.” “Yeah,” Allen grunted. “But two people have to be unable to perform so I don't have to be in the chorus.” “The chorus is an important part of the musical,” Mark argued.

Allen spent the whole evening complaining to his parents about his role in the play. “You have a good voice, Allen,” his father told him. “But for this musical, the director wanted Mark for the role. I’m sure you’ll be chosen for the next musical.” Allen rolled his eyes and stomped away. “Nobody understands! I should be the lead now,” he shouted.
At the first rehearsal, Allen stood with the members of the chorus, crossed his arms and sang softly. All around him people were congratulating Mark on his part. Mark was the center of attention during the whole rehearsal. He got to sing with Katie, the female lead and the director loved how their voices sounded together.
