Saving the Black Bears

The magnificent Rocky Mountains are found in the western part of the United States and Canada. A large part of the Rocky Mountains has been turned into National Parks, where plants and animals can be seen in their natural habitat. One of these animals found in this area is the black bear. One of the highlights of going to the Rocky Mountains is seeing a black bear. However, human interactions and hunting have hurt this animal. This essay will discuss how humans have harmed the black bear, and how the bear is being saved.

The biggest threat to black bears is that people invade their habitat. Humans build houses where the black bears live and then want them to stay away. After that, the bears must find a new place to live where it is more difficult to survive. A black bear is an omnivore and will come into campsites or towns where people have food. Once a bear has found human food, it must be killed so that it doesn’t return and endanger the people.

A hunter goes into the mountain to look for a bear.

The black bears also suffer from humans that hunt them. In the past people would hunt the black bear to use its meat for food. Its thick fur was used to keep warm. Now that people have supermarkets and heating, they don't need to hunt bears. But some people continue to hunt black bears for fun.

The good news is that the population of black bears is increasing. Trophy hunting is illegal and it is now closely controlled. The rangers in the National Parks make sure that no one leaves food in their campsite and warn visitors not to feed the bears. The land where the bears live is now protected and no one can hunt or build a house there. Now that we have these rules, the black bears are able to live in their natural habitat.
