Part 3

The journey through Georgia Aquarium continues today with a visit to the Ocean Voyager exhibit. This is the biggest exhibit in the aquarium and it has the world’s largest viewing windows. The sea creatures can also be seen while walking through a tunnel right underneath them. One fish that might swim overhead is the whale shark, the largest shark in the world. The whale shark is an enormous shark with a spotted body that lives in tropical waters. Its giant mouth can be bigger than a person, but it is actually a very gentle shark and doesn’t attack its prey. It simply opens its gigantic mouth and swims along the bottom of the sea, swallowing fish as it moves.

A Visit to Georgia Aquarium

The Ocean Voyager exhibit also contains manta rays, which are flat, triangular shaped fish with long tails that glide around coral reefs. Manta rays have a very big brain and are quite intelligent. They are one of the most interesting species in the aquarium, since they are often seen with smaller fish attached to them, which clean their bodies. Manta rays also give birth to live young, instead of hatching eggs!

Along with the hundreds of other animals exhibited in Georgia Aquarium, there is also a 4D theater, which uses virtual reality to display the world under the sea. There are numerous interactive games and activities, including an online scavenger hunt played on the aquarium’s mobile app. There is a delicious restaurant, serving light meals and a buffet lunch, and, of course, a gift shop.

Here you can see a livestream of the Ocean Voyager exhibit in Georgia Aquarium. What animals can you see in the video?

  1. What are the different ways to view the Ocean Voyager exhibit?
  2. How does a whale shark eat its food?
  3. What shape do manta rays have?
  4. What are some activities you can do in Georgia Aquarium?
