Why do we need to grow food?

Reading
nutrients
It’s something everyone needs every day, food. Different cultures have created typical dishes that vary widely across the world. Everyone has different likes and dislikes and nobody has the same diet. We get vitamins and minerals from food, but we
can't even agree on what nutrients are the most important. Doctors are constantly inventing new fad diets and in this busy world, many people just want a quick and easy way to get the food they need.
Reading
availability
The history of food is fascinating. In the early days, the human diet was determined by the availability of food. The first people were hunter/gatherers, and the food they ate was different based on their location. People who lived in the
tropics ate more fruits, while those living on plains and in forest lands ate more meat. People that lived close to lakes and seas ate mostly fish.
Reading
grains
About 11,500 years ago, people began using agriculture to produce grains, such as wheat, rice and corn. With these grains, people developed bread, pasta and tortillas. It was around this time that people began to raise cows, sheep and goats to produce dairy products and drink milk and create cheese.
Reading
preserve
As the years passed, humans learned how to preserve food and store it to eat later. They also began to use food as an item to trade, barter or sell. They developed ways to move food into areas that needed it and also make a profit from food production.
People preserve vegetables and fruits to eat in the winter.
Reading
section
In the middle ages, society began to split into a high class and low class section, and the two groups ate very different food. The nobility dined on meat, which was expensive and belonged to the landowners. The poor began to use beans,
vegetables, and cereals as a staple in their diet. The meals were controlled by the seasons, and people were only able to eat what the land could provide.
Reading
spices
In the 16th century, the Empires in Spain and Portugal opened up trade routes as they explored the world. This meant that food from Europe began to mix with the spices and ingredients found in places like India and China. People began eating food with cinnamon, pepper and .
cloves. The taste of food became important and cooks started to experiment with spices and flavors they had never seen before. These exotic spices were expensive and in heavy demand.

Fill in the Blanks
I am afraid we are going to have a of wheat this year. We planted the in two sections this season. The section behind the house is doing well, but the behind the barn hasn't received any sun yet. I hope that these crops won't die because I want to earn enough money to buy some exotic and cook a curry for my mum.
