debate
My name is Jerra and I am the last candidate for student council president. I am new to this school, but served on the student council of my previous school for three years. I am taking advanced English and will be joining the debate team next semester. I am good at discussing the pros and cons of each issue. I promise to work with all of my heart and soul to improve the school.

Reading
facets
As a newcomer to the school, I feel I am able to look at the school with fresh eyes. I have already noticed that many students in the school are lonely and I would like to run on a platform that would help with this problem and provide community outreach. I have noticed two problems within the community, and therefore the outreach program I propose has two facets.
Reading
passions
My grandmother lives in a senior center in town and when I went to visit, I happened to notice that I was the only visitor during the entire time I was there. I want to suggest visiting the senior center in small groups, sharing our passions, schoolwork and interests with the older generation. I would work with the staff at the senior center to create clubs and courses for the residents that would allow the students at the high school to learn from the elders as well.
Reading
isolation
The second plan I have is to work with younger children in afterschool activities for parents who can not afford daycare. With teachers’ supervision, we could offer fun activities for the primary students, which include dance, art, reading and athletic options. This would be a great way to learn how to take care of younger children as well. I am sure that these two ideas could increase joy and lower feelings of isolation and loneliness in the student body.
