What does a tour guide do?
Victor arrived at the visitor center a little after eleven. His face was flushed and he was out of breath from running across the park. “Victor! There you are,” shouted out his coworker, Amber. “You’ve got another group waiting right outside.” “Another group?” Victor spluttered. “I’ve already done three this morning. I need to take a little break before I go out again. It’s quite hot this morning.” Victor sat down on the hard chair behind the counter. opened up a bottle of water and sipped it slowly.

“You’ve got to hurry,” Amber told her coworker. “They’ve already been waiting almost twenty minutes.” “I can’t do another tour right now, Amber,” Victor said seriously. “I’ve been walking since eight. I haven’t had any breakfast and the fountain was turned off, so I haven’t had any water either.” Amber opened her mouth to make a rebuttal, but she looked closely at Victor and saw the sweat on his brow and his bright red face and stayed quiet. “I’ll let them know the tour is delayed, but you better get out there as soon as you can.

“If you delay the tour, you know they won’t give you the best tips,” said David. He walked behind the counter and grabbed a bottle of water. He was just as sweaty as Victor and looked like he was more exhausted. “I don’t care about tips today,” Victor said. “I have done twelve tours every day this week. I can’t keep this rhythm up anymore.” “I hear you,” David replied. “At first I was excited about all the money I would make this summer, but If I keep working like this, my feet are going to fall off.”

“We need to do something about this,” Victor stated. “When I get to the city hall with my next group, I’m going to go in and ask to speak to the mayor. If she wants to offer free tours, she needs to make sure there are enough tour guides to do the work.” “We need at least two more guides to help out,” David agreed. “I’ll make a complaint as well.” “Victor!” Amber shouted from the doorway, “The tourists are getting restless. I really need you to start your tour now!” Victor groaned and stood up slowly, he forced himself to smile as he approached the gigantic group outside waiting for him.
